KS4 How Can Unifrog Help Me

Year 10

There is a comprehensive KS4 PSHCE programme around careers which is delivered through the tutor programme.  As well as presentations, videos and information, students are asked to engage in class discussion or paired work to complete a careers tutor booklet so that they can evidence their thinking and reflections.

Careers in the curriculum is vitally important so that students can link their current learning within their subjects to later careers. Around the academy, there are subject specific careers boards that highlight university and local apprenticeship routes, as well as past student successes and how they have used that subject to springboard their careers.

All Year 10 students have access to Unifrog during careers in tutor or accessed from home and their mobile devices. Students can cannot only engage with exploring the range of career pathways but also careers and subject searches; look up universities, courses, and apprenticeships; and record their activities, competencies, and interactions.

There is a facility on Unifrog to find apprenticeships and compare Sixth Forms and colleges, which may particularly useful.

All students in Y10 have access to a short 1to1 career guidance through our meaningful career’s conversations with a level 6 independent careers adviser in the summer term. Oxbridge potential students will begin their mentoring programme workshops.

All students in Y10 are invited to attend the Futures Fair that is held at NOA.  This is an opportunity for students to meet local and national employers, talk to current apprentices, colleges, universities, and training providers.

The year 10 PSHCE Careers programme is based around understanding how to evidence skills and attributes, interests, and experiences. Students will complete a series of activities so that they can plan and prepare a CV. In addition to the tutor programme all year 10 students will prepare for a mock interview, understand expectations around presenting yourself at interview and engage in a mock interview day with a local employer.

All year 10s will also be involved in the Post 16 Careers Day and depending on likely pathways, engage in Sixth Form tasters or a college visit and have a presentation about apprenticeship routes from an employer. Lastly, we aim for all students in year 9 & 10 to have the opportunity to attend a university.

Year 11

During year 11, the main emphasis for careers in the 1to1 individual meaningful career guidance conversation with one of our independent career’s advisers, students and parents are also provided with a list of local colleges, 6th forms and training providers and their open days through the weekly Careers News Letter. This enables students to plan visits accordingly ensuring all options are informed to secure back up plans should they need them.

All students are given at least one interview with our Independent Careers Advisor, although some students (dependent on need) will require additional meeting/s to support them.  These meetings also allow students to be matched to the right career initiatives that might be available during the year.  Year 11 have careers assemblies/presentations from colleges, companies that offer apprenticeships as well as University talks. Oxbridge potential students will continue with their mentoring programme workshops.
