At North Oxfordshire Academy, we are committed to providing an inclusive education where every student is supported to participate fully in school life and achieve their potential.

We recognise that students learn and develop in different ways. High-quality classroom teaching is at the heart of our approach, with additional support and provision available for students who need something different or additional to our usual classroom offer.

Our SEND and Inclusion team works closely with students, families, teachers, primary schools and external professionals to understand individual needs and provide appropriate support.

Our Approach to SEND

At North Oxfordshire Academy, supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities is a whole-school responsibility.

We aim to identify additional needs as early as possible and work in partnership with students, families and professionals to understand the support that may be needed.

High-quality teaching is the first step in supporting every student. Where a student requires additional or different support, we use a graduated approach to understand their needs, put appropriate support in place and review its impact.

Parents and carers are an important part of this process. We work with families, students, teaching staff and, where appropriate, external professionals to build a clear understanding of each student’s needs and the support that will help them succeed.

SEND Support at NOA

Every student's needs are different. Support at North Oxfordshire Academy is therefore planned according to the individual student, the barriers they may be experiencing and the outcomes they are working towards.

Support may take place within the classroom, through targeted intervention or through additional specialist support where appropriate.

Our Inclusion Team

Our Inclusion Team works alongside teaching and pastoral staff to support students who may need additional help to access learning and participate fully in school life.

The team works with students, families and colleagues across the academy to help identify barriers, coordinate appropriate support and review students' needs.

Additional provision

Alongside classroom and targeted support, some students may benefit from additional opportunities and provision designed to support their individual needs.

At NOA, this can include opportunities such as Forest School and Animal Care, where appropriate, alongside other targeted support and interventions.

The support offered to an individual student will depend on their identified needs and the outcomes they are working towards.
