Plans in case of absence of pupils or teaching staff

There are a number of ways that schools could be affected by further absences caused by transmission of coronavirus.  We have set out plans that cover several scenarios, though we are aware that we need to be flexible and adaptable should any of these situations arise.

Whole school lockdown

In the case of a whole school lockdown, we would use many of the strategies that were put in place April – July.

  • Remote learning timetable (4 x normal timetabled lessons per day) would be put in place
  • Live teaching via ‘teams’ will take place for all students via ‘meet now’ request.
  • Parent communication to support students’ access to live lessons
  • Tracker to monitor student participation each day
  • Phone calls made home to support engagement
  • SEN students and those deemed needing more support will be allocated a key worker for daily contact

Full year group absence

If a whole year group is asked to remain at home, or more than one, we will need to maintain the in-school teaching timetable.

  • Teachers will invite students to join via a ‘meet now request’ which can be accessed via the class team
  • Students will join the lesson from home with microphone and camera switched off unless otherwise requested by teacher
  • Teachers will be equipped with wireless microphones so that students joining from home will be well placed to hear the content of the lesson
  • SEN students and those deemed needing more support will be allocated a key worker for daily contact

Partial year group absence

If part of a year group is required to remain at home, students will be expected to log on to teams from home to join their normal lessons.

Staff absences

Normal, in-house cover will be provided as far as possible in the case of staff members being required to stay at home.

  • Unless the member of staff is unwell, they will teach their lesson from home via teams
  • A cover supervisor will be present in the room at school to supervise behaviour and safety
  • Students will be expected to complete work as if the teacher is present in the room.
  • Where teachers are ill during a whole school lockdown, students will be informed that live lessons cannot go ahead. Alternative provision will be made

Students without access to technology

Student will be provided with work packs before they leave site or parents will be contacted to collect these for their child.

  • Y11 - past paper packs have been put together
  • CGP workbooks have or revision guides have been ordered for other year groups
  • SEN students and those deemed needing more support will be allocated a key worker for daily contact
