North Oxfordshire Academy is committed to providing an inclusive school community where everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and has the opportunity to participate, achieve and succeed.
We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for our students, staff, parents and carers, and to creating an environment that welcomes and respects people from different backgrounds, cultures, faiths and identities.
Under the Equality Act 2010, North Oxfordshire Academy has a responsibility to promote equality and prevent unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
As an academy, we are committed to:
eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
promoting equality of access and opportunity within our school and wider community; and
promoting positive attitudes to difference and good relationships between people from different backgrounds, cultures, faiths and communities.
Our Senior Leadership Team and Local Governing Body regularly review the progress we are making in meeting our equality duties.
To use performance data to monitor student achievement and respond to variations between groups of learners, subjects, courses and key stages, trends over time and comparisons with other schools.
To raise awareness of the diversity in our student and staff population through a range of activities including our PSHE programme.
To raise awareness of the need to tackle sexist behaviour and misogyny.
To raise the awareness and skills of staff to promote fairness and equality in the context of their role.
To provide an environment that welcomes, protects, and respects people from all backgrounds, genders, cultures, faiths, abilities, and ethnic origins.
To ensure that all students are given opportunities to make a positive contribution to school life.
To recognise and celebrate cultural events through assemblies and the curriculum, and to increase student awareness of issues experienced by different communities.
Our approach to equality is supported by academy policies and statutory information which set out our responsibilities and expectations in more detail.
