English

Being equipped with good oral and written communication skills can be the cornerstone of a successful social and work life. With a NOA English Curriculum that is packed with a rich source of material (from classic and modern fiction and non-fiction, newspaper articles and screenplays, through to exciting media text) its dedicated team of English professionals thrive on providing all of its students with the necessary building blocks to challenge and learn from what they read.

Understanding why and how literature is both rich and influential enables students to make informed decisions as well as to delight in the power of the written word.  This compulsory study in English is a valuable preparation for many of the career choices in later life.  It is also designed to promote enthusiasm for the thirst of knowledge and a lifelong love of literature.

To further promote job prospects, all students will be given the opportunity to study for not just 1, but 2 GCSEs from a range of courses, including English Language, English Literature and Film Studies. Over the past two years, the students following this new approach to study have been rewarded not only by an increase in C grade passes, but also an increase in B and A grades.

Achievements, in the subject, C grade and above, speak for themselves:  From 49% in 2010 to 59.4% in 2011 the team are on target for 70%+ in 2012.   The proudest achievement though is our 3 levels progress above national average.
