NOA Sixth Form has a strong team of staff who are dedicated to helping our students reach their goal, whether that is University, further training or moving straight into a career.

Director of Sixth Form

Mr. Leyburn

Mr. Leyburn has been director of sixth form for the past 5 years, during which time the sixth form gained and has maintained its OFSTED rating of ‘Good’. The last 5 years have also seen a sustained increase in numbers of successful university applications by NOA students, which this year is set for a record high 70%. He is an English Language subject specialist as well as a teacher of English Literature, Philosophy and Psychology. Alongside his 20 years’ teaching experience, he has written and edited versions of the AQA A Level English Language textbook,  has spent over 10 years as an A Level Senior Examiner, and has led on PGCE teaching courses for local universities. 

Head of Year 12

Jason Young

Mr. Young is currently the head of Year 12 and leads a team of sixth form tutors to develop students’ independence within the curriculum during their transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5. Mr. Young also leads of the A Level Economics course and the Duke of Edinburgh qualification which is also open to students in the lower school. Alongside promoting DofE, Mr Young leads of our RAG week and commits to developing the ethos of the sixth form.

Head of Year 13

Beth Hall

Ms. Hall is currently head of Year 13 and works with tutors to support students with their next steps after their time at North Oxfordshire Academy. This includes working with the careers team and Emma Brown to support students with UCAS, employment and apprenticeship applications.As well as supporting students with welfare and liaising with parents, Ms Hall leads the social committee with Mrs. Paris. Alongside her pastoral duties, she teaches A Level Media and GCSE English.

Youth Work Co-ordinator

Lee Davis

Lee Davis runs and delivers the popular Youth Work course, which has been acknowledged for its contribution to the wider community. Lee organises placements for students who are keen to develop skills within a primary school environment and improves confidence in working with youths in the community. He also leads on the tutor time Leadership programme and promotes volunteering in the academy community. Lee was recently been nominated for the Best in Everyone Award and won the award at the United Learning Best in Everyone Conference in 2016.

Key Stage 5 Lead Practitioner

Abbie Neall

Ms. Neall has had many years of experience working overseas where her teaching of the A Level also included developing the International Baccalaureate. Ms. Neall has since been a key practitioner at Key Stage 5 level, supporting and mentoring staff to deliver outstanding KS5 lessons and leads on the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) with Year 12 students. Ms. Neall is a subject specialist for A Level English Literature but also teaches English Language and GCSE.

Attendance Officer

Lily Tilocca

Lily is our attendance officer who monitors both year groups attendance each day. She is the first point of call for any absence and is excellent at building parental engagement. Lily also manages the administration for trips, sixth form interviews and parent meetings between the heads of year and parents.

Study Supervisor/UCAS Co-ordinator

Emma Brown

Emma works with our students during their study time, where she supports with academic work and building skills for their revision. Emma works closely with those who are applying for university through UCAS and liaises with teachers to build references for applications. Emma is fundamental in prompting high achievers in at NOA.

Careers

Jo Thorne

Jo Thorne and the sixth form team work together to try to improve student employability through various workshops and events. Jo also works with students individually to support their applications for employment or apprenticeships and arranges for speakers from different universities and companies to come in and inspire our students. Jo has many links with local businesses and promotes the Career Ready opportunities for Year 12 and links Oxford Apprenticeships together with our academy.
