SEND Provision at NOA

Children learn and develop in different ways. Teachers recognise this and use different teaching styles in the classroom to cater for various ways children learn. This means that most children will learn in the classroom without any additional support. At NOA, the Inclusion Team work with the mainstream class teachers to help support children in their mainstream subjects. Each child with SEN is provided a Learning Coach who will act as an advocate for the child’s learning and help them access the curriculum.

Sometimes however, students need something more than the standard offer and our Inclusion department (known as The Link) provide the link between extra provision and the classroom.

We follow the graduated approach to SEND model. This means that we first try to ensure that every child (regardless of SEND status) has access to high quality teaching. Our second Wave is to provide small group support, such as a nurture group and class wide intervention (Direct Instruction, please follow the link here for further information). If more is needed then we will liaise with key stake holders, including the child, parents, and any external agencies, to offer a bespoke offer on an individual basis.

In The Link we also aim to provide every student with a positive educational experience. Our ELSA (emotional literacy) specialists help any students struggling in this area, and we also provide Animal Care and Forest School to help develop empathy and social skills.
