Year 10

KS4 How Can Unifrog Help Me

KS4 How Can Unifrog Help Me

Like at KS3, there is a comprehensive KS4 PSHE programme around careers that is delivered through the tutor programme.  As well as presentations, videos and information, students are asked to engage in class discussion or paired work and complete a careers tutor booklet so that they have evidence of their thinking and reflections.

Careers in the curriculum is vitally important so that students can link their current learning within their subjects to later careers. Around the academy, there are subject specific careers boards that highlight university and local apprenticeship routes, as well as past student successes and how they have used that subject to springboard their careers.  Where possible, over the next 3 years, through subject Career Champions, we will be looking to increase the number of subject-specific careers trips and employers into the curriculum.

All Year 10 students have access to Unifrog.  During careers in tutor or accessed from home, students can engage with exploring the range of career pathways; careers and subject searches; look up universities, courses and apprenticeships; and record their activities, competencies and interactions.  There is also a facility to find apprenticeships and compare Sixth Form and college.  There are quizzes to complete to help direct the research and regular themed sessions such as ‘Green’ week and careers in this sector.

Targeted groups in Y10, or via referral, will have access to 1to1 career guidance. Oxbridge potential students will continue their mentoring programme of workshops. Leadership programmes such as Prefects will take place toward end of year 10, in preparation for taking up this office in year 11.

All students in Y10 are invited to attend the Apprenticeship and Careers Fair that is held at NOA in Feb/March.  This is an opportunity for students to meet local employers, talk to current apprentices, colleges, universities and training providers.

The year 10 PSHE Careers programme is based around understanding how to evidence skills and attributes, interests and experiences.  Students will complete a series of activities so that they can plan and prepare a CV.  In addition to the tutor programme, new for 2022, all year 10 students will prepare for interview, understand expectations around presenting yourself at interview and engage in a mock interview day with local employers/volunteers.  All year 10s will also be involved in the Post 16 Careers day and depending on likely pathways, engage in Sixth Form tasters, college tasters, financial awareness and have a presentation from a local university on post 16 and university and apprenticeship routes.

Lastly, all students in year 10 will have the opportunity to attend the university bitesize day (university will come to NOA); apply for leadership positions such as Prefects; and apply to attend the National Skills Show at the NEC.
